Inspiring Children For 34 Years

Admissions

Miss Barbara's Preschool provides a safe, exciting learning environment for children who are in the normal and in the above range of intelligence.

The comfort and welfare of your child is our main concern; therefore, the first month of preschool is a trial period, to determine if our program is suitable for your child. The determination of suitability will be made jointly, by parent, teacher and director.

We accept children 2 to 5 years. Potty training is not necessary.

Registration and Enrollment
To enroll your child at Miss Barbara's Preschool it will be necessary to:

Return all registration, medical, information and emergency forms, prior to the first day of school.

Include with the completed forms, a non-refundable registration fee, and the first month's tuition.

When the above information has been submitted, your child will be considered enrolled. At that time the director and your child's teacher will make all the necessary arrangements to be certain that your child will feel welcome and comfortable at preschool. These arrangements include a personalized mailbox for all artwork, and assigned hook for clothing, and name cards for classroom work, etc.

Visitors
Visitors to our school are requested to make an appointment. Our director needs to set aside time to give them a tour of the school and explain our program.

We believe that parents are our "partners" in the educational process. Therefore, PARENTS OF ENROLLED STUDENTS ARE NOT VISITORS. Any parent is welcome to stop by for a visit when they choose. Please remember that the teachers will be busy with the children. This is not a good time to come in for parent/teacher discussion.

Parent/Teacher Communication
It is our practice to communicate with parents through the use of newsletter notices, school calendars, and invitations to school events.

An Annual Parent/Teacher Conference is held, you will be informed of the date on the School Holiday Calendar. Parents are encouraged to make appointments with their child's teacher as needed.

The safety and welfare of each child is our utmost priority; therefore, the teachers are unable to confer with parents during the regular school session.

Monthly Calendars
Our monthly calendars are sent home primarily to inform you of some simple events that will happen during the month, such as the day for show and tell, a day we might want the children to wear a certain color, or a particular type of celebration we are planning.

Although we may also be giving you a very brief outline of curriculum, we could not begin to cover our program material on the calendar. You may get a sense of the educational unit we have planned, and some of the basic curriculum that will be covered. On occasion we invite all parents to join us prior to dismissal. At the time our children usually present a brief musical or drama program that is directly related to our educational unit. Any in depth understanding of the program will come from attendance at this program, discussion with the teacher, and observation of your child's new skills.

Illness
Please do not send your child to school if he/she is not feeling well.

If your child should get ill while in school, he/she will be consoled, cared for and taken into the office with an adult. You, or your emergency contact will be called to pick up your child.

If a medical emergency occurs a local ambulance will be called and a teacher will accompany your child. You will be called immediately and informed of the situation.

Our Main Priority - Children in our Care
First Day of School

Many children feel anxious about the first day of school, and understandably, so do many of the parents.

In our experience, separation can be made easier if we follow a few basic guidelines:

  1. Keep parent/child goodbyes brief.
  2. Dress your child in familiar, comfortable play clothes.
  3. Don't plan to take "first day photos" at the beginning of the school day. Wait until dismissal.
  4. If your child is upset and crying, please leave and trust us to quiet them.

If you leave a crying child, please be assured that we will call you as soon as possible to inform you of their adjustment.

It is not unusual for goodbyes, during the first week or two of school, to be tearful. Children usually get involved with one another after each tearful goodbye.

Please bring a change of clothing in a plastic box, clearly labeled with your child's name. The clothing is for emergency use and will be returned at the end of the school year.

Keep us Informed
Please be sure to let us know if something happens that may affect your child emotionally. Events such as neighbors moving, a family member being ill or the loss of a pet, are subjects that can easily be opened for discussion in school. It gives all of the children the opportunity to talk about situations that can be confusing and can often cause them to feel uncomfortable about being away from home.

Graduation
Our graduation ceremony is an important and exciting event each year. It is a memorable occasion and much time and effort goes into preparation for the ceremony. Our teachers donate extra time and energy to create a festive atmosphere. Throughout the year, they take photographs that are incorporated into a PROFESSIONAL VIDEO. The video is coordinated by Lasting Impressions, Inc. Their video technicians are behind the scene on graduation to photograph the excitement and preparation for the graduation ceremony. They then creatively record the ceremony.

Each graduating child will receive a "Graduation Memory Package". It will include:

  • A commemorative video
  • A keepsake program
  • A diploma, suitable for framing
  • Special graduation attire

The cost for this ireasurable memory package is $49.00.
